It is the Australian Government’s priority to ensure we are planning ahead and thinking innovatively when it comes to infrastructure.
Securing Australia’s water supplies
The government has established a $509.5 million National Water Infrastructure Fund of which around $209 million is for water infrastructure projects in northern Australia. The fund will support the future of farmers through water security. $50 million of this will be allocated for the detailed planning necessary to inform future investment decisions. The remaining $459.5 million will go towards constructing water infrastructure projects, in partnership with state and territory governments and the private sector.
- Water resource assessments to unlock the full potential of the North
- Flood of applications for funding to plan better national water infrastructure
More efficient transport infrastructure for agriculture
The government will expand CSIRO’s TRAnsport Network Strategic Investment Tool (TRANSIT). TRANSIT will identify bottlenecks and pinchpoints to reduce industry costs, and support efficient infrastructure investment to benefit agriculture.
Better mobile phone and internet coverage
- An additional $60 million will be invested, on top of the $100 million Mobile Black Spot Program, to improve mobile coverage across regional Australia.
- Farmers will be given improved access to technology via the $29.5 billion National Broadband Network (NBN)rollout. Improved access to technology offers greater market options for farmers and enables them to be in a stronger position to negotiate on price.
With adequate technology and coverage, the possibilities for agricultural businesses are endless.
